Aug 3, 2016 - I have a hard time hating an OS if it does what I need it to do. Scrivener Mac and Scrivener Windows are so far apart that they are basically two. Instead buying a Windows Ultrabook for use at home with a monitor. This means that if you want to buy Scrivener 3 on the Mac App Store, you’ll need to pay full price again. If you buy Scrivener 1 for Windows now, you’ll get a free update to version 3 when it’s available. You can continue using Scrivener 2 for macOS and Scrivener 1 for Windows.
I tried both Dropbox, Box, and Google Drive. The sync wasn't the problem, it was importing and exporting from the Windows Scrivener to the Mac. The files would be there, but each version wanted them in a different structure. I would import and they wouldn't be where I wanted them in Scrivener.

I would also have to remember to do a File, Sync.wait for it to sync, and then go to the other computer, make sure the files did the sync, and then import. I mostly do screenwriting so I use Scrivener on the Mac for all research. I write scripts with the fountain syntax that I save to Box, which keeps it in sync on both computers. I write the scripts in Sublime Text (Mac and PC version). I use Highland on the Mac to make sure it looks correct, and either export to Final Draft or PDF depending on who is going to read it.
Scrivener for Mac as a feature so you can sync your files to an external folder. You can sync to a folder in your Dropbox and have that folder sync to your other computers. Scrivener for Windows does not have the sync feature.
You can only import or export the files from your project. I tend to break things up quite a bit and create a new file per scene or I might keep characters all in separate files.
When I sync those to the external folder, it works well. When I import the group of files into the Windows Scrivener, it doesn't put the in the same structure. I have to go and reorganize the project. I have 50 files in each project, and 20 different projects.
The projects themselves are not compatible. So I would have to save 100 individual files, and then open them in the corresponding project on the opposite OS. Scrivener for Mac OS X About the project file: While this is listed as a Mac resource, it is only listed as such because the project file itself has been designed for the Mac, and will not function properly on Windows (at least for the purposes of compilation). As a reference resource, it could be used on Windows as well.
Both manuals come from the same project file.
